Who are the best goalscorers in Europe?

Stats - we love stats. There are so many pointless stats around in football these days that people often forget about the most important stat of them all ... goals. So we thought we would devise a leaderboard and rank Europes best goalscorers, based on how many goals they've scored compared to how many games they've played - simple.

Our criteria is just as simple. We've based the figures from the start of the 2014/15 season and are only counting league goals. Each player must have scored at least 45 goals and finally, we've limited the ranking to just Europes 'big 5 leagues' - being; England, Italy, Spain, Germany and France.

Whilst the usual goal getters in the top 5 or so may not surprise, the rest of the list springs up a few shocks along the way. So, here you have it.

  1. Cristiano Ronaldo - shock.
  2. Lionel Messi - was either 2nd or 1st, let's face it.
